A Famille-Rose ‘Nine Peaches’ Globular Vase, Tianqiuping
Qing dynasty, Yongzheng mark
The compressed globular body rises to a tall cylindrical neck, the surface brushed with a gnarled peach tree issuing from the foot and bearing fruit flushed in soft pink, amid white blossoms and leaves rendered in graduated greens. The peach, emblem of longevity, was the most favoured motif for imperial birthday celebrations; vases of this monumental form were made for the palace and its rituals of gift-giving.
